How to get and maintain healthy skin condition is the question all of us ask, who wants to prolong skin aging.

Skin has many functions, since this is the body’s largest organ, and it;s most important role is protection from the outside world – from bacteria, viruses, pollution and chemical substances we face on daily basis in the work places or our homes.
Skin regulates body temperature, maintains fluid balance and controls moisture loss.

 

Some internal factors impact our skin – genetics, aging, hormones, overall health condition. Some of these we van’t influence but there are lot of external factors that we CAN – unprotected sun exposure, washing with water that is too hot, unhealthful nutrition, stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, smoking, particular medications and so on.

 

What can help?

 

Eating a healthy food such as

 

Mango – contains compounds with antioxidant properties, which help to protect components of the skin, such as collagen.

Tomato – have skin-cancer prevention benefits. Lycopene, the pigment responsible for giving tomatoes their deep red color, is thought to play a role in the protective effect of tomatoes against UV damage.

Olive oil – is associated with a lower risk of facial photo aging – damage to the skin that includes wrinkles, dark spots and discoloration which is result from long-term sun exposure.

Cocoa flavanols – dark chocolate contains – may improve the structure and function of the skin, decreasing roughness and scaling on skin, increasing skin hydration and helping support the skin’s defenses against damage caused by UV rays.

Green tea – considerable for many skin benefits. It contains polyphenols which rejuvenate dying skin cells, may be useful for healing wounds or certain skin conditions. Green tea may slow down the production of skin cells and suppress inflammation.

White tea – has anti cancer and anti aging properties. Some ingredients in white tea may protect skin from oxidative stress and immune cell damage.

Kale – is one of the best sources of lutein and zeaxanth – which protect against light-induced skin damage, especially from UV rays.

Omega 3 oils – contained in oily-fish, walnuts and pumpkin seeds or oils such as linseed oil and corn oil may prevent dryness and scaling of the skin.

Soy – may help to improve crow’s feet skin wrinkles appeared at the outer corner of the eyes.

Vitamin C – is essential for the manufacture of collagen which helps to keep the skin smooth and youthful. Food rich in vitamin C: guava, orange, tangerines, kiwi, red peppers.

 

Lower stress as much as possible

 

Scientists and researchers suspect that stress increases the quantity of sebum, which is the oily substance that

blocks pores. This, in turn, leads to greater acne issue. You’ve, probably, noticed that sometimes, just before some important (to you) occasion – you woke up with the pimple(s) on your face. The ones who experience high stress level were more likely to have certain skin issues, such as

– eachy skin

– scaly skin

– increased sweating

– flaky, oily, or waxy patches on the scalp

– hand, neck and face rashes or even

– hair loss

Reducing stress level will most likely lead to clearer and healthier skin. If your busy and stressy lifestyle leaves marks on your appearance – try to include some stress relief techniques in your daily routine, such as exercise, yoga or meditation.

This will not only improve your skin appearance but will improve your overall health and well-being.

Keep your skin moisturized

 

No matter the season, a moisturizer is essential for beautiful skin.

Using a moisturizer every day can make your skin glow and provide deep hydration. Regardless of skin type, normal, combination, oily or dry – you should use moisturizer to keep your skin healthy.

Include some small changes in your daily routine: Take one 5- to 10-minute shower or bath per day. Excessive washing can strip away the oily layer of the skin and dry it out. Use warm water instead of hot water.

Use a gentle and fragrance-free cleanser. Wash your face after waking up, before bed and if/after sweating.

Our skin obviously plays an important role in our overall health. It shields us from external factors such as viruses and bacteria. Not to mention it’s regulation of our body temperature. Sometimes, we can easily overlook the important part it plays.

It is clear that there are some of these factors over which we can exercise little or no influence (internal factors), but I believe it is important to understand how to control the ones that are under our direct influence.

As you mentioned, incorporating the right foods can go a long way. This has been really helpful and informative.

Thank you so much for sharing this skin care routine! I am in my late 30s and so afraid that I will have a wrinkle. I want to look young forever. Of course, I take my pictures with filters now (always lol). Moisturizer is big for me, I always make sure that I apply lotions to my skin and I always use sunscreen every time I go out. The UV is my nemesis! I think the only two things that are hard for me on the list are stress and sleep. Oh well, I will make it happen!

I stumbled upon this blog post while looking for a solution to my premature baldness of Alopecia. I agree with you that a high-stress level can cause hair loss and later, baldness. 

Aside from abundant sleep, I’d like to learn more about the use of Green Tea or should I say possible solutions for baldness. I have a lot of them here, Green Tea from Africa. So far, I have observed they help produce glowing skin, especially in the face. If it weren’t for this huge area in my head that’s bald, maybe I look younger now.
