How to get and maintain healthy skin condition is the question all of us ask, who wants to prolong skin aging.

Skin has many functions, since this is the body’s largest organ, and it;s most important role is protection from the outside world – from bacteria, viruses, pollution and chemical substances we face on daily basis in the work places or our homes.
Skin regulates body temperature, maintains fluid balance and controls moisture loss.

Some internal factors impact our skin – genetics, aging, hormones, overall health condition. Some of these we van’t influence but there are lot of external factors that we CAN – unprotected sun exposure, washing with water that is too hot, unhealthful nutrition, stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, smoking, particular medications and so on.

What can help?

Eating a healthy food such as

Mango – contains compounds with antioxidant properties, which help to protect components of the skin, such as collagen.

Tomato – have skin-cancer prevention benefits. Lycopene, the pigment responsible for giving tomatoes their deep red color, is thought to play a role in the protective effect of tomatoes against UV damage.

Olive oil – is associated with a lower risk of facial photo aging – damage to the skin that includes wrinkles, dark spots and discoloration which is result from long-term sun exposure.

Cocoa flavanols – dark chocolate contains – may improve the structure and function of the skin, decreasing roughness and scaling on skin, increasing skin hydration and helping support the skin’s defenses against damage caused by UV rays.

Green tea – considerable for many skin benefits. It contains polyphenols which rejuvenate dying skin cells, may be useful for healing wounds or certain skin conditions. Green tea may slow down the production of skin cells and suppress inflammation.

White tea – has anti cancer and anti aging properties. Some ingredients in white tea may protect skin from oxidative stress and immune cell damage.

Kale – is one of the best sources of lutein and zeaxanth – which protect against light-induced skin damage, especially from UV rays.

Omega 3 oils – contained in oily-fish, walnuts and pumpkin seeds or oils such as linseed oil and corn oil may prevent dryness and scaling of the skin.

Soy – may help to improve crow’s feet skin wrinkles appeared at the outer corner of the eyes.

Vitamin C – is essential for the manufacture of collagen which helps to keep the skin smooth and youthful. Food rich in vitamin C: guava, orange, tangerines, kiwi, red peppers.

Lower stress as much as possible

Scientists and researchers suspect that stress increases the quantity of sebum, which is the oily substance that

blocks pores. This, in turn, leads to greater acne issue. You’ve, probably, noticed that sometimes, just before some important (to you) occasion – you woke up with the pimple(s) on your face. The ones who experience high stress level were more likely to have certain skin issues, such as

– eachy skin

– scaly skin

– increased sweating

– flaky, oily, or waxy patches on the scalp

– hand, neck and face rashes or even

– hair loss

Reducing stress level will most likely lead to clearer and healthier skin. If your busy and stressy lifestyle leaves marks on your appearance – try to include some stress relief techniques in your daily routine, such as exercise, yoga or meditation.

This will not only improve your skin appearance but will improve your overall health and well-being.

If you had never practiced meditation (it’s not the big deal, really, it’s all about bringing out self awareness and focus to your inner being) – there are lot of guided meditations online (YouTube), all you need is earphones for the best effect.

My favorite YouTube channel for guided meditations is Rising Higher Meditation, lead by Jess Shepard.

Keep your skin moisturized

No matter the season, a moisturizer is essential for beautiful skin.

Using a moisturizer every day can make your skin glow and provide deep hydration. Regardless of skin type, normal, combination, oily or dry – you should use moisturizer to keep your skin healthy.

Include some small changes in your daily routine: Take one 5- to 10-minute shower or bath per day. Excessive washing can strip away the oily layer of the skin and dry it out. Use warm water instead of hot water.

Use a gentle and fragrance-free cleanser. Wash your face after waking up, before bed and if/after sweating.

Moisturize immediately after washing (face and body). To trap in moisture, ointments, lotions, and creams need to be applied within minutes of drying off.

I’ll share with you my modest opinion about some of the best beauty products to consider:

Brightening Cleanser

This cleanser washes away impurities to leave skin soft, refreshed, and luminous. A blend of ingredients- including lycopene (from tomatoes) and hydrolyzed wheat protein – make it ideal for cleansing, hydrating, tightening, firming, and complexion control. When applied to face and left to sit for 5-10 minutes (before rinsing), this complexion clearer acts as an exfoliating mask. It gently removes makeup without stripping the skin of necessary nutrients. It’s also a great formula for cleaning makeup brushes!

Advanced Protection Cream

The ultimate age defying, deeply hydrating moisturizing and over 250 written positive reviews (no negatives, BTW) make this product one of the best aging skin care product. This ultra rich Organic Seaweed and botanical anti-aging moisturizer deeply hydrates and firms skin. DPHP, an amino acid compound visibly evens skin tone and reduces the appearance of hyper pigmentation. Luscious Grapeseed, Jojoba and Avocado oils minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a plump, renewed complexion.

For the best possible outcome, you may combine it with

Hyaluronic Sea Serum

I am a huuge fan of serum products, because you can combine it with any moisturizer and it will work. It is used prior to moisturizer, best during the night when your skin is calmed and not influenced by external effects.

This lightweight, non-greasy moisture boosting serum smoothes wrinkles & fine lines and replenishes dry, thirsty skin. Hyaluronic Acid, nature’s most powerful moisture magnet, floods skin to deliver intense moisture that swiftly plumps for a more youthful, dewy glow. Hyaluronic Acid attracts up to 1,000 x its weight in water, strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier for visibly improved firmness and elasticity. A synergy of three molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid and three organic Seaweeds work together to guarantee immediate, long-lasting hydration.

Age-defying seaweed extracts boost skin with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. This high performance serum absorbs instantly, leaving a velvety-soft, luminous finish.

This product won “Style & Beauty Award 2017” and doesn’t have negative reviews or customer’s feedback.

Rescue and Relief Spray

Another great product for beautiful skin in body care. This refreshing, milky emulsion provides deep, hydrating moisture while calming and soothing flushed, sensitive skin. A multitasking formula, it brings instant, cooling relief to itching, burning, irritated, and inflamed skin caused by sun exposure, rosacea, eczema, rashes, laser treatments, chemical peels, shaving, waxing, minor
burns, and radiation treatments.

Water-thin spray. Very refreshing. Gentle natural cucumber scent. Dries quickly and leaves skin soft and smooth. Provides instant hydrating, cooling and calming benefits.

Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 5 oz

Featured in the “Best Sunscreens” Category with a #1 Rating in the EWG’s 2013 & 2014 Sunscreen Guides. Suntegrity’s SPF 30 Natural Mineral Sunscreen for the body offersbroad-spectrum protection and is free of harsh chemicals like parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic dyes, sulfates, nanoparticles and chemical UV absorbers. It’s non-greasy and contains
20% non-nano, uncoated zinc-oxide for therapeutic broad-spectrum protection against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. This sunscreen formula is easy to apply, loaded with antioxidants for healthy protection all year round and has a light uplifting citrus scent. It is also available in non-scented version.

Getting your beauty sleep is a must

The National Sleep Foundation recommend that adults sleep for between 7 and 9 hours every day. Sleeping for under that amount of time could be detrimental to your health — and your skin, in particular.
During deep sleep, your body enters repair mode and regenerates skin, muscles, and blood and brain cells. Without adequate sleep, your body is unable to produce new collagen. Collagen prevents your skin from sagging. Lack of sleep causes the hormone cortisol to rise, which in excess amounts, breaks down collagen which keeps our skin bouncy and thick. You can also gently massage your face before bed time.

In the conclusion – it’s all about finding a skincare regimen that works for your own skin. What is important is that we treat it with care & love.

Since skin is part of our bodies it will respond to our way of life accordingly. Many people don’t pay so much attention to it because, well it’s our skin, but it is more important than what most people realize. Keeping it healthy as the rest of our body is essential and following some very beasic but important rules can help with that. Unfortunately many people fail to realize its importance until they start having health problems which is a shame really.

Our skin obviously plays an important role in our overall health. It shields us from external factors such as viruses and bacteria. Not to mention it’s regulation of our body temperature. Sometimes, we can easily overlook the important part it plays.

It is clear that there are some of these factors over which we can exercise little or no influence (internal factors), but I believe it is important to understand how to control the ones that are under our direct influence.

As you mentioned, incorporating the right foods can go a long way. This has been really helpful and informative.

Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much for sharing this skin care routine! I am in my late 30s and so afraid that I will have a wrinkle. I want to look young forever. Of course, I take my pictures with filters now (always lol). Moisturizer is big for me, I always make sure that I apply lotions to my skin and I always use sunscreen every time I go out. The UV is my nemesis! I think the only two things that are hard for me on the list are stress and sleep. Oh well, I will make it happen!

Please, don’t be afraid of few wrinkles and skin getting mature 🙂 When you nourish your skin properly it will look great and healthy in every age! During my 15+ years in Cosmetics&Beauty; industry, I saw many mature women look amazing based on their skincare routine (without botox!) You just need to find what suits your skin best. You can also check my Pinterest board “Cosmetics&Beauty;” where you can found really excellent products for skin care, highly effective with only positive feedback from customers.

Thank you so much for the awesome post!  I really enjoyed reading this post, and it has taught me a fair bit about the types of food I need to eat.  I did not know that mango was good, so I will have to add that to my diet, since I love Mango’s!  One issue I have, though, is lack of sleep.  That is something that I deal with every single day.

“If there is a will – there is a way” 🙂

I am sure that you will figure out your sleep issue, as soon as your little one (from the profile picture) gets old enough. I thought both of my kids at early ages how quality sleep is important, so both of them slept all night from the infant period. Thank you for your kind comment!

I stumbled upon this blog post while looking for a solution to my premature baldness of Alopecia. I agree with you that a high-stress level can cause hair loss and later, baldness.

Aside from abundant sleep, I’d like to learn more about the use of Green Tea or should I say possible solutions for baldness. I have a lot of them here, Green Tea from Africa. So far, I have observed they help produce glowing skin, especially in the face. If it weren’t for this huge area in my head that’s bald, maybe I look younger now.

Thank you for these reminders, I am pondering upon them right now.

Gaurav Gaur

Hi, Vesna.
Thanks for sharing your views on skin care tips to have a natural glow – which in fact creates a confidence. The information on natural remedies and ingredients was very useful including the five beauty products based on your personal experience. We certainly need to improve in the hours of sleep as my wife rests for only six hours and that may be the reason of lesser glow on her skin.
Warm Regards,
Gaurav Gaur
